Starting out downtown at 2nd and Market, twisting through Union Square and ending near Chinatown and Jackson Square, the Chinese New Year Parade was one of the last large outdoor gatherings in the Bay Area of 2020.
I caught the last hour of the parade near the end of the route at Kearny and Columbus. It was a bit less crowded than at the start, and I was happy with the juxtaposition of the floats and dragons against the architecture of Chinatown and bordering North Beach.
I'm going to come clean with you. This photo story is 80% to highlight that Recology, the Bay Area trash and recycling company, has a human sized blue bin costume that they bring out for parades and media events. And they're wearing matching Blue Chucks.
Even the 2020 Census folks came out.
